FAMILY
Dick married Ruth Blakeley of Modesto, CA in 1963. They have four
adult children, three daughters and a son—Van and Erica Clements,
and their children, Alyson, Claire, Samuel and Hope (Eugene, OR);
Brett and Jenny Moody and their son, Drew (San Jose, CA); Scott and
Susanna Aughtmon and their sons, Jack, Will and Addison (Redwood
City, CA); and Christopher and Traci Foth and their sons, Cameron
and Noah, and daughter, Chloe (Windsor, CO).
CAREER
Most of Foth’s early career was spent working with and around young
people. He pastored a congregation adjacent to the University of
Illinois in Urbana (1966-1978), and then served as President of
Bethany College in California (1978-1992). While on sabbatical in
the spring of 1993, Dick served as Minister-in-Residence at Gordon-Conwell
Seminary, South Hamilton, MA.
The Foths moved to Washington DC in August of 1993 to work with men
and women in leadership positions and the Prayer Breakfast Movement,
nationally and internationally.
College presidency had thrust him into the arena of government
and business, so when the call came in 1993 to come to Washington DC
to work under the auspices of the House and Senate breakfast groups
and to help with the National Prayer Breakfast, it seemed a natural
extension of his work. Dick spends his time encouraging individuals
privately in and toward Jesus and across the lines---personal,
social, religious, and political--- that separate people from each
other.
Through the years, the themes of relationship building and
reconciliation have become central to Dick’s speaking and writing.
Invitations to speak on those topics have taken Dick and Ruth across
many denominations, cultures, and nations.
In the summer of 2008, Dick and Ruth moved to Fort Collins, CO.
Though continuing to work with in Washington DC and with political
and business leaders, Dick now is part of the pastoral teaching team
at Timberline Church in Fort Collins. In that role, he helps to
mentor the pastoral staff and works throughout the city with the
larger leadership community.
He is also on the Teaching Teams of National Community Church in
Washington, DC…and Willamette Christian Center in Eugene, OR. In
that function, he speaks to both congregations 4 to 6 times a year.
As of spring 2010, Dick became Chairman of the Board of Project
Rescue Foundation, an effort dedicated to the eradication of human
trafficking globally and the restoration of the lives caught in that
destructive web.
WRITING
Dick and Ruth co-authored a book on relational leadership in 1995
(Victor Books) entitled, “When The Giant Lies Down.” His doctoral
thesis, “A Covenant Journey: Observations on Personal Faith and
Public Power,” speaks to a similar theme.
